From Telegraph on line, dated Saturday 31st October: Al Noor Hospitals, a large private healthcare company based in Abu Dhabi, operates within three hospitals and 17 medical centres and clinics. The business, which floated in London in 2013 and is listed on the FTSE 250, is currently the focus of bid interest. A much larger, Johannesburg-listed hospital group called Mediclinic wants to buy Al Noor – and the enlarged group is expected to keep its London listing. Al Noor’s two major shareholders have agreed to sell their stakes and, if the deal eventually completes, the combined group will have a market capitalisation north of £6bn. This means it is likely to be included in the blue-chip index in the reshuffle immediately after completion. Of course, all of this is not certain, especially since two further bidders have expressed an interest in buying Al Noor. NMC Health, which is also listed in the UK mid-cap index, made an informal cash-and-shares offer to buy Al Noor on October 9. Al Noor said on October 20 it had received yet another indication of interest from Abu Dhabi-based VPS Healthcare. However, the smart money is on the Mediclinic deal eventually coming through. There’s another potential deal further down the line. Mediclinic owns a 29.9pc stake in FTSE 250 group Spire Healthcare. This has led to speculation that an enlarged group may buy the whole of Spire to create an even larger London-listed hospitals behemoth. It could be argued that healthcare is one of the few perpetual bull markets around today. The global population is ageing and gentrifying – and people with larger disposable income tend to spend more money on their health
