This is a day with no news!
City Hall is waging war on the internal combustion engine. The legal limit for nitrogen dioxide and other nitrogen oxides keeps being reduced to justify the eventual aim of forcing drivers of petrol and diesel engine cars off the road.
I am not saying that we should keep IC engines for cars for ever - yes, some privately owned electric cars will be needed - but let's be honest about why this story is being written.
There is of course LESS pollution than ever before in London: fewer small particulates from diesel, better combustion of hydrocarbons due to electronic ignition and catalytic converters on exhausts. All this technology will be consigned to the museum when we are forced to drive electric cars.  People will forget, just as they forget how beautiful and revolutionary Concorde and supersonic air travel was (ended in 2003).
