It's the usual pruning, done every two or three years, and I do agree that the trees look horrible for a bit, but they recover and with planes it's almost impossible to kill them off. As has also been pointed out, it's to reduce the canopy, an important procedure in an urban setting.

Dalling Road is within the Brackenbury Residents Association area which has received over 90 new trees during the last three years (and more being planted this season); some have been paid by resident donation, some by residents watering new trees and so 'earning' trees from the Council, and yet more from Council grant and grants from the Mayor's tree fund and the Thames Community Foundation. All this has been organised by the Brackenbury Residents Association.

If you live within the BRA area please consider joining; if elsewhere, then ask your local residents' association to apply for grants to plant trees.

The Council will replace dead trees but, apart from trees from planning gain, will not add to the new tree stock except by efforts like BRA's or the Mayor's tree fund.
