They get away with it because they always say to the planning authority: "Oh but this is an exception. Demolition is so expensive, we have to go up and up, and we cannot afford to include even ONE affordable housing unit", etc.., etc...
What the developers do NOT say is that on their website available in Chinese for the buyers in Malaysia, Hong Kong, mainland China, etc.. there is written a discreet advertising USP: "No social housing". To include the lower orders would make the apartments unsellable to this market, which seeks "exclusivity", concierges, gated communities, etc... |
