Riverside Studios seems to have been built on the site where my aunt Lila's block of low rise flats used to be. She moved from Wilsons Road to this spot before moving out to Richmond. If memory serves me right there used to be a road that ran down the other side of Hammersmith Bridge Road. There was a rather smelly toilet there just under the bridge. On the west side of that road there was a block of what must have been swish flats pre-war. You turned right to walk along the river front and came to a small ochre painted pub where the ETU held meetings. I joined the ETU there but I didn't attend many meetings it had two opposing factions - Trots and Lens(?) - they didn't 'alf bend yur ear'ole. I soon gave them a miss. Which reminds me of when I was in the RAF Yatesbury. There was a deep thinking guy in our billet whose locker was full of books: Mein Kamf, Trotsky, Lenin tomes among others which the the Military Police didn't like - but he knew his way around his rights and saw them off.
